# Obsidian Bases, published

Bases turn your Obsidian vault into a database. Flowershow publishes those databases to the web — tables, cards, lists, filters, formulas and all. Here's everything you need to know.

## What is Obsidian Bases?

Bases is a core Obsidian feature that lets you query and display your notes as structured data. Think of it like a lightweight database built from your frontmatter properties — filter by date, status, or any property; display results as a table, card gallery, or list; and compute new values with formulas.

Where most tools stop at rendering markdown, Flowershow goes further — your Bases render on your published site exactly as they appear in Obsidian.

## Getting started

Bases blocks are parsed in MDX mode. To make them work on your Flowershow site, add one line to your page frontmatter:

````
---
title: My reading list
syntaxMode: mdx
---
```base
...your base query here
```
````

Or set it globally for your whole site in your `config.json`. See the [syntax mode docs](/content/docs/syntax-mode/index.html) for details.

## What's supported

Everything you need for real-world use works today.

📋 Table viewRows, property columns, and built-in summaries: sum, average, min, max, median, standard deviation, range, earliest, latest, checked/unchecked, empty/filled, unique.

🃏 Cards viewGallery grid with configurable card size, image support (local attachments and URLs), image fit and aspect ratio control, and hex colour card backgrounds.

📝 List viewBulleted or numbered list of your filtered note set. Simple, fast, and great for indexes and reading lists.

🔍 FiltersFilter with and, or, not logic. All comparison operators (==, !=, >, <, >=, <=) and boolean operators (!, &&, \|\|) supported.

🧮 FormulasArithmetic (+, -, *, /, %), full date functions (format, relative, today, now), string operations (contains, lower, replace, split, trim), number functions (abs, ceil, floor, round), and list operations (map, filter, sort, join).

📁 File propertiesAccess file.name, file.path, file.folder, file.ext, file.size, file.hasProperty(), and file.inFolder() in your queries.

## Coming soon

A few advanced features are still in progress:

- —Map view (display notes as pins on interactive maps)
- —Date arithmetic (add/subtract durations)
- —File metadata: ctime, mtime, backlinks, tags, embeds
- —Custom summary formulas

We track Obsidian Bases development closely and ship support as features stabilise. Watch the [blog](/content/blog/index.html) for updates.
